Beating the heat the Australian way – icecreams all round for newly-arrived Australia Awards University of Melbourne scholars.

This year, 661 Australia Awards scholars started their studies in the first semester at  39 institutions throughout the country.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new arrivals who’ve travelled from around 33 countries to study here.
Along with settling in to their home campuses, the newly-arrived Australia Awards scholars have been out and about seeing the sights, as they start their Australian experience.
They’re also enjoying the opportunity to meet other Awards recipients from the same host institution through the Introductory Academic Program.
This program gives newly-arrived scholars a chance to quickly get up to speed on living and studying in Australia.
Australia Awards is sharing some of the new arrivals’ Australian adventures on social media through our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Scholars will also have the opportunity to meet awardees from across their state or territory at the DFAT-hosted Australia Awards Welcome and Farewell Celebrations planned for mid-2016 in every capital city.
The popular Welcome and Farewell Celebrations have proved to be a great professional networking opportunity, as they bring together newly-arrived and graduating scholars, with representatives from the government, business and tertiary sectors.
We wish all our new arrivals in 2016 every success with their studies, and an enjoyable stay in Australia.
